Description
The artwork is part of the Marine Nature collection. Pelagic crusts and submerged seafloors recall ancient shipwrecks of travelers, explorations of the abysses of a still unknown sea in its darkest depths. Tectonic forms emerge from the seabed representing the movements of geological formation, while the sea, guardian and cradle of history and civilization, through the stratifications of the past guards the secrets of the first routes and navigations. In the artist’s imagination the marine world is closely linked to the image of water as a symbol of intrauterine reunion with the mother. The sea brings to mind childhood memories, strengthens family ties, remembers the world of a lost naivety. The collection aims at the recovery of the historical tradition and the preservation of the seascape and it seeks to combine different interest in history, art of the territory, environmentalism, biology, geology and archaeology. The artistic technique consists in creating a materical mixture made with plaster, glue, sand, organic sediments like shells and inorganic substance of volcanic origin deposited on sea beds and ocean floor such as pumice stone and fine clay mixed with anthropic productions (ceramic fragments, wood) as remembrance of the history of the peoples who have sailed the Mediterranean.
